Come pick your poison, let all the noise in...

Its incredibly hard to wake up early again after all the half term lie ins. There's not much to report today, just a usual monday which I've moaned about before so I might as well talk about something else...
So how about my fave tv shows, since I spend a lot of my evenings in between homework and revision rewatching my DVD's of these brilliant shows despite pretty much knowing all the lines.

First up there's The Vampire Diaries. Those who may have only seen a few episodes or only an advert for this show may just assume its another Twilight (eurghhh my hatred for that saga). But I can promise you that although this show may have appeared shortly after the "success" (yes I used inverted commas there..) of said film, The Vampire Diaries has so many differences. The characters in this programme actually have personalities that stand out, the supernaturals are more believable and have restrictions and powers that tie in with folk lore e.g having to be invited in order to enter houses, being able to control minds, able to die by being staked or burning in sunlight, werewolves only able to turn on full moon etc and the supporting characters all play important roles and have their own storylines instead of being shoved to the back. As much as it is a love triangle, Vampire Diaries is about the town of Mystic Falls, its past and present and the consequences of the supernatural world colliding with our own. Seriously love this show, and as each episode progresses the storyline moves along at a fast pace so its looking like the season finale in a few weeks time will be epic.

Next there's Merlin, a show one of my friends got me into about Camelot and arthurian legend. I love this show because it can easily switch between comedic moments, battle scenes, romance, magic and I've always been a sucker for myths and legends anyways. The series have been improving each time, so I'm looking forwards to series four, sadly I'm going to have to wait till autumn for it to be broadcast :(

Doctor Who is another one of my regular viewings. I've been watching this show since I was about nine or ten years old since its revival and I honestly think it is amazing, because with this programme there are no limits, it can go anywhere, anyplace, anytime and you can never quite know whats going to happen next. The Doctor is such an interesting character, you're always intrigued by him and never do you know all his secrets.

Finally to finish there's Being Human, another supernatural programme, this time a comedy/drama. Some of the scripts are brilliant for this show, the storylines unique and the actors perfect, although sometimes I can dislike certain episodes because they can go overthetop or leave something to be desired. Overall though, I'm quite interested to know where the third series will end up.

So I finally saw The Social Network...

Yep, yesterday I saw The Social Network and I must admit at first I wasn't sure whether I'd like the movie or not as a film about the creation of facebook doesn't seem all that exciting. However, within the first fifteen minutes I was intrigued by the storyline which ultimately depicts betrayal, friendship and ambition. The casting was spot on and the script and settings made the film very realistic. Overall I'd say you should probably see this film sometime, its interesting viewing and really does make you think.  Can't say whether it'll win the Best Picture Oscar tonight, as I haven't seen the other main contendors like "The Kings Speech" yet, but I can see why it's been nominated for 8 oscars in total.

Now onto todays events! I ordered my prom dress pattern online, not sure whether I should have a midnight blue fabric or some sort of purple..anyway its short and fitted with a single shoulder strap which forms a bow at the back. I'm getting excited about prom now even though its months away, I guess its because prom's an excuse for dressing up and signals the end of GCSE's. Apart from that I've not really done much else today except complete the mountain of homework I've let build up over the past few days.

In the middle of nowhere...

I woke up early this morning to attend a duke of edinburgh route planning session, not amused at the fact that Saturday is usually my lie in day. But I got the job done and my team and I are all set ready for the three day hike in the summer, I'm praying the weather will be kind this time, unlike last May when we were walking with 60 litre packed rucksacks in 27 degrees and hotter!

Apart from that I've done little else apart from catch up with homework, listen to another new fave song, the appropriately named Obsession by Sky Ferreira, watch youtube vids and read books :) So thats mainly the reason why my blog is named "In the middle of nowhere" as my life does seem to be going nowhere right now (or at least at a very slow pace). Plus its a reference to one of my fave tv show episodes :P

Going to watch the Social Network later on which I've been wanting to see so badly for ages, I really hope its good :) Over and out for today.

Dear Friday, you're in a bad mood today

Well its friday again and I'm shocked, the past few days seem to have blurred into one, mainly because I've been doing pretty much the same thing every day, staring at the screen of my laptop trying to complete this ICT, my motivation has gone now so I think its time to write the blog, check twitter, check facebook,  update the tumblr which I've just set up (http://www.strangecharm94.tumblr.com/) and curl up with some DVD's and read because once again the plans for a day out have been scrapped due to miserable weather, people working and a general lack of organisation. Hopefully the weekend will be much better!

To add to the list of amazingly fun things I've done today, I did some Biology posters for revision which I'm pretty proud of because I spent ages drawing out diagrams and colouring them in. Oh and I've decided I probably ought to read Of Mice and Men again ready for English, at least I can enjoy that subject somewhat unlike ICT.

On a tangent, (and I do love tangents) I wanted to say how much I'm looking forwards to spring, bring on the warm, sunshine weather again instead of this constant cover of clouds! I've also decided I need to start looking for prom dress ideas soonish as well as buying some new clothes, as my wardrobe is looking empty! I may have to schedule in a shopping trip sometime...

Anyways I love adding pictures and quotes to the end of my blogs- just to brighten them up and generally because I just love them!

Where are the days going to...

I'm not too sure where the holidays are going to, it seems like now the fun has disappeared and I'm left to face the mountains of work I've been trying to avoid. So I started on my ICT project again and honestly I cannot wait till 25th March when the deadline is because at least then I'll be safe in knowledge that I'll never have talk about "initial plans", "ongoing plans" or "test buddy feedback" ever again.

And I'm being organised with my revision for once and starting early ready for the GCSE's in May and June. Today I brought two more A4 files to hold posters, notes and test papers, some new felt tips because I was distraught to find mine were all dead and new highlighters. Yep, these next few months are going to be fun, and I'm especially dreading revising maths because I hate it so much, it takes all my effort just persuading myself to face cos, sin and tan...shudders. So this morning I did some physics on the universe and stars which wasn't too bad as I find that topic interesting, and later I'm going to do a quick biology poster on osmosis. I'll probably squeeze in chemistry tommorow sometime along with more ICT.

Nothing else really to report today, but my blogs have been pretty boring for the past few posts recently so I'll leave you with some piccies! See you tommorow!

Yep, cause I'm that cool ;)

If only maths were that simple :P

Probably the best game of countdown ever and one of the best words ever. I wish Moss from the IT crowd would come help me with my ICT!

No one would have believed...

I wasn't really sure what to write about today, but I had a brilliant suggestion of writing about books, one my fave things in the world.
During exam season, I struggle to find time to read so this week has been a good opportunity to open the covers of some pieces of literature I had been meaning to sink my teeth into for a while. Firstly, I borrowed a book from the library called "The Other Countess", this was a book for Young Adults set in Tudor times and I was pleasantly surprised as recently I've found YA fiction standards to be slipping, the stories becoming too similar and lacking in a certain quality. However this book kept me hooked, the characters were likable and at least had some sense, the story seemed realistic and also intriguing at the same time, definatly you should read it for yourself if you get the opportunity.

Another book I keep meaning to talk about is a classic- "War Of The Worlds", one of the first tales of alien invasion ever written. I love how this book is challenging to read and whilst focuses its attention mainly on the sequence of events the martians bring with them, also hints at several points to do with humanity, society, and conquest. Additionally,  I would like to point out that the soundtrack "War Of The Worlds" is pretty amazing as well, I often listen to it when I need to think, plus I've seen it performed live and it was one of the most incredible things I've ever been to.
.
I will also mention "Animal Farm", poissibly one of my favourite books of all time. This tale of revolution that in first light seems to be simply about a bunch of animals looking for freedom from oppression by humans, actually contains deep context which makes you think about whether we can ever truly live our lives fairly and equally. I'd say this book is a must read!

Well, there's a quick update for you of my recent reads...I love books so much so I may have actually gone into a lot of detail there! :D

Yesterday does not define you....

Another blog title with lyrics from a song this time "Family Tree by Matthew West". I wanted to use this title as I've been thinking a lot about the current state of the world and what could be possible.

Yesterday I went to see Never Let Me Go at the cinema, basically its about these genetic clones whose whole purpose is to donate organs to "Original humans", of course theres an element of love twisted in but I don't want to say too much because you really should see it for yourself. It really made me think, what with science developing so rapidly that a future like that could really be possible. I'm all for scientific medical advancements, in fact I support them and want to have a career in science, but there's only so far I think we should allow ourselves to take things, using genetic cloning processes to create organs to save lives I think is a brilliant thing, but if people overstepped the mark and actually began to make full clones just to be organ donors then that to me would inhumane.

On another note in Libya, innocents are being slaughtered just for protesting and yet there seems to be a lack of knowledge about what is actually going on. I'm not too informed so I won't pretend to know everything that is going in that country, but it still shocks me the fact that MEDC countries aren't getting involved or even showing that much interest in the situation...is there an ulterior motive at work, a certain fuel perhaps?

I know world peace is a concept which is near impossible to achieve, but why can't we understand that whatever we are promised or seems simply amazing for one group of people will have consequences on others. Maybe we should all remember that lyric "yesterday does not define you.", because whatever you promised yesterday can always be changed.

Another thought for the day!

Monday, 21 February 2011

This is one of those rare good mondays.

Yep, this monday is going great so far, mainly due to a few factors,
a) its not a school day
b) my best friend Charlie is with me and we're up to the usual hyperness
c) I had a lie in this morning
d) I'm going to see Never Let Me Go later :)

So today monday, I guess we're going through the love stage in our love/hate relationship. There's not much else I want to say, except I feel antisocial because Charlie is sat next to me on her laptop tackling ICT too. If  we had redvines we could do anything, shame the don't sell them in the UK :(  (AVPS reference)

Here's some pictures from earlier for you to enjoy. I've just been told that the previous sentence sounds like its from Blue Peter...score!

Another sunday goes by...

I don't really know where this weekend has gone to, its seems to have vanished in the blink of an eye. I've spent quite a lot of time slaving away over this rather annoying ICT project, realising I proabably should have paid more attention last year, cause now I'm stuck trying to fit two years worth of work into six weeks, nice one brainiac. At least I had the brillaint War Of The Worlds soundtrack and Florence and the Machine to listen to whilst I worked.

Its nice at least to think that instead of school tommorow I can have a lie in and hopefully do some pretty awesome stuff with my best friend :)

I also went riding again this morning, I was on Marj the mare I talked about in an earlier post. We did quite a good jumping course with a cross pole, upright and combinations and bless her she decided to behave herself today. I must remember to take my camera next time so I can get some piccies of her jumping for you to see!

The weather is miserable, I hope spring hurrys up and gets here so I can enjoy the sunshine again, I really hate rain, it just makes me a reclusee for the day because I hate getting soaked. But being a recluse isn't necessarily a bad thing, reading, blogging, randomly doodling and listening to music is a pretty great way to spend a rainy afternoon.

I feel like posting more pictures today, hope you don't mind :')

Cause this is what dreams should always be,
I just want to stay, I just want to keep this dream in me"

I think I might’ve inhaled you"

I'm in the mood for quotes.

It's friday. I love fridays, especially this friday because next week is half term! Randomly I'm in the mood to share some of my favourite quotes for you all to enjoy! Not a lot has really happened today, but anyhow its been a good day, even PE which used to be my most despised lesson ever isn't too bad anymore, as bouncing up and down on a trampoline for fifty minutes is actually pretty fun.
Here go the quotes:

Wow enough quoting for today :)

If you could only know, only know...

This week seems to be dragging painfully slowly, I'm not too sure why...maybe its because I'm anticipating the half term holidays or simply because at the moment I feel like a member of the undead, waking up, working and sleeping, pretty much the same routine each day. Oh well... at least tonight I seem to have a bit of free time for once :)

So here's how I've spent my night. Ate some lovely cake ( it actually tasted like heaven), watched A Very Potter Sequel on youtube- definatly one of the best things on the entire site, it never fails to make me laugh, the acting and songs are brilliant and then proceeded to watch the Vampire Diaries ( I mention this programme a lot don't I? So wish I could be part of the cast ;) )

So, that's about all for today...I'll probably go read now while I get the chance :)

You say you want change...but you're never sure.

I've been told I have to write my yearbook statement, and to be honest I've sort of been dreading stuff like this because it means that soon I'll have to accept the fact that this academic year is drawing to a close and the big changes will begin to descend. I can't even think of words to describe the amazing people I've met, the things I've enjoyed or the memories I've shared...so it looks like my yearbook message will end up plain, simple and not really what I want to say, it will probably end up along the lines of "Yeah I had fun."

Additionally, now I'm beginning to realise just how much work these next few months will entail in the final push before GCSE exams...eurghh. Hopefully the results will end up being worth it.

As one of my favourite authors John Green put "Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia." in his brilliant book Looking For Alaska (you should definatly check it out, I'll probably blog more about it). I agree with this quote as undoubtedly, I've spent many moments thinking about what my life could be like, but as the lyrics to the song "You Wait For Rain" by Kyler England (also from the Vampire Diaries) say "You say you want change..but you're never sure", this really sums up some of my feelings. I guess you never know whether change is good until the change has happened.

On a random tangent, I thought I'd mention the fact that I watched the BRITS last night, like many people I was shocked to see Justin Bieber get an award over many more talented artists...guess it just shows the music industry these days isn't always all about how good the records are. Plus, I discovered for myself that at the moment I strongly dislike the songs in the charts..they're all too similiar and unoriginal. I think I'll just stick to unknown songs with beautiful meanings I've found through my fave tv show soundtracks and youtube videos. At the moment I'm really liking the band Morning Glory, especially the song A&E, its pretty much on repeat for the past few days.

Oh and speaking of music...I'm writing a piece on some computer software to describe the life cycle of a star as part of my GCSE Music composition...just thought you'd like to know.

Dear Monday, everyone hates you but don't feel bad.

Monday...the day everyone seems to groan about (me included). The day furthest away from the promises of the weekend, the day signalling the start of another working calendar week. Each year we get through 52 Mondays, complaining about them unless a rare event occurs that makes us forget the fact its Monday and perhaps believe it were Friday. I bet Monday gets jealous of all the praise we give to Saturday.

Today of course it is Valentines day, and this year Monday gets to its turn to be the hosting day, it doesn't change the way I feel about Mondays personally but for many couples out there in their eyes, perhaps this Monday will be something special. In my opinion, Valentines day has lost its true meaning, instead of simply being a day to simply say "I've always loved you, you're special to me." as it should be, its turned into a full blown commercial event, where it is the norm for elaborate gifts to be exchanged, and when choclatiers, card and jewellery shops flourish.

Monday I don't mean to be horrible or anything but you truly drew the short straw of where to be placed in the week. But don't feel bad about it, you give us "Bank Holiday Monday", "Glee" (although I haven't liked this series) and used to bring us the amazing "Inbetweeners".

On another random note, I was ecstatic to see the Harry Potter movies presented with a BAFTA last night, those films truly deserve it, as undoubtebly millions of lives have been changed by the story of the boy wizard and friends- mine being one of those!

Going off on another tangent, I have just recently finished reading Animal Farm again, I love that book, its so short yet the messages it presents are so powerful, and the fate of Boxer never fails to make me cry!

Back to Mondays. Monday, I hate you, but I can't get rid of you so we'll just have to come to a mutual understanding.

An indescribable creature.

Me riding a horse called Bonny.
"A horse is a projection of people's dreams about themselves-
Strong, powerful, beautiful- and it has the capacity of giving us
escape from our mundane existance." - Pam Brown

I've always loved that quote, as I can never really explain to people who don't share a passion for horses why these animals are so life changing, however to me that quote makes a pretty good summary.
I started riding around 6 years ago after begging my parents for lessons, since all my life horses had been my favourite animals. I could write a huge blog just describing every horse I rode and what I learnt from them, but that would take me months.

Instead I will talk about this mornings ride, a skewbald (brown and white) mare called Marj. Whilst cantering around the arena, I contemplated just how amazing horses are, they could so easily reject human contact whatsoever but instead choose to allow a much physically weaker being ride upon their back. Additionally  when we later got on to the jumping, I thought about how it seemed as though horses wanted to please us by jumping fences which they would naturally avoid, giving us access to wings which we humans lack.

And yet at the same time these creatures will never let you forget that they are unpredictable, just when you think you've cracked them, they'll throw you, just when you think things are going well, they can decide to refuse to move another step further, just when you think you're getting along fine they can have a rearing fit. That is why I cannot describe to you the horse in general...because each one is unique to itself.

Past, Present and Future.

I'm writing my first blog post ever right at this present moment, exciting stuff I know! However when you read this I will have written it in the past. Time is a strange concept indeed, the past, present and future all constantly intertwined, passing us by each and every second. That's what I've been thinking about a lot today....how a project I started for ICT is drawing to a close, the deadline in the future creeping ever closer, how right now I sit and type up work for said project and how in the past I completed files, some of which I'm proud of, some I laugh at and some I can't even bear to look at anymore.
Guess my project is a bit like life in those aspects.

One of my recent fave songs is called "Losing Your Memory" by Ryan Star,( it was featured on an episode of the Vampire Diaries which I obsess over and probably will mention again on this blog) has the lyric "All the best of what we've done is yet to come", I really think this lyric sums up the future in a positive way for me, because in a couple of months time the big changes will come, when I move from GCSE's to A levels, learn to drive, get experience for the job I hope to one day have etc.
I believe time is a concept, the reason we are so afraid of it is because we don't know or understand what the future holds, and not knowing terrifies us.

Wow, that was pretty deep stuff for me! I'll try to add some more fast paced, excitement next time! :)
