Come pick your poison, let all the noise in...

Its incredibly hard to wake up early again after all the half term lie ins. There's not much to report today, just a usual monday which I've moaned about before so I might as well talk about something else...
So how about my fave tv shows, since I spend a lot of my evenings in between homework and revision rewatching my DVD's of these brilliant shows despite pretty much knowing all the lines.

First up there's The Vampire Diaries. Those who may have only seen a few episodes or only an advert for this show may just assume its another Twilight (eurghhh my hatred for that saga). But I can promise you that although this show may have appeared shortly after the "success" (yes I used inverted commas there..) of said film, The Vampire Diaries has so many differences. The characters in this programme actually have personalities that stand out, the supernaturals are more believable and have restrictions and powers that tie in with folk lore e.g having to be invited in order to enter houses, being able to control minds, able to die by being staked or burning in sunlight, werewolves only able to turn on full moon etc and the supporting characters all play important roles and have their own storylines instead of being shoved to the back. As much as it is a love triangle, Vampire Diaries is about the town of Mystic Falls, its past and present and the consequences of the supernatural world colliding with our own. Seriously love this show, and as each episode progresses the storyline moves along at a fast pace so its looking like the season finale in a few weeks time will be epic.

Next there's Merlin, a show one of my friends got me into about Camelot and arthurian legend. I love this show because it can easily switch between comedic moments, battle scenes, romance, magic and I've always been a sucker for myths and legends anyways. The series have been improving each time, so I'm looking forwards to series four, sadly I'm going to have to wait till autumn for it to be broadcast :(

Doctor Who is another one of my regular viewings. I've been watching this show since I was about nine or ten years old since its revival and I honestly think it is amazing, because with this programme there are no limits, it can go anywhere, anyplace, anytime and you can never quite know whats going to happen next. The Doctor is such an interesting character, you're always intrigued by him and never do you know all his secrets.

Finally to finish there's Being Human, another supernatural programme, this time a comedy/drama. Some of the scripts are brilliant for this show, the storylines unique and the actors perfect, although sometimes I can dislike certain episodes because they can go overthetop or leave something to be desired. Overall though, I'm quite interested to know where the third series will end up.

 

                   

So I finally saw The Social Network...

Yep, yesterday I saw The Social Network and I must admit at first I wasn't sure whether I'd like the movie or not as a film about the creation of facebook doesn't seem all that exciting. However, within the first fifteen minutes I was intrigued by the storyline which ultimately depicts betrayal, friendship and ambition. The casting was spot on and the script and settings made the film very realistic. Overall I'd say you should probably see this film sometime, its interesting viewing and really does make you think.  Can't say whether it'll win the Best Picture Oscar tonight, as I haven't seen the other main contendors like "The Kings Speech" yet, but I can see why it's been nominated for 8 oscars in total.

Now onto todays events! I ordered my prom dress pattern online, not sure whether I should have a midnight blue fabric or some sort of purple..anyway its short and fitted with a single shoulder strap which forms a bow at the back. I'm getting excited about prom now even though its months away, I guess its because prom's an excuse for dressing up and signals the end of GCSE's. Apart from that I've not really done much else today except complete the mountain of homework I've let build up over the past few days.

In the middle of nowhere...

I woke up early this morning to attend a duke of edinburgh route planning session, not amused at the fact that Saturday is usually my lie in day. But I got the job done and my team and I are all set ready for the three day hike in the summer, I'm praying the weather will be kind this time, unlike last May when we were walking with 60 litre packed rucksacks in 27 degrees and hotter!

Apart from that I've done little else apart from catch up with homework, listen to another new fave song, the appropriately named Obsession by Sky Ferreira, watch youtube vids and read books :) So thats mainly the reason why my blog is named "In the middle of nowhere" as my life does seem to be going nowhere right now (or at least at a very slow pace). Plus its a reference to one of my fave tv show episodes :P

Going to watch the Social Network later on which I've been wanting to see so badly for ages, I really hope its good :) Over and out for today.

Dear Friday, you're in a bad mood today

Well its friday again and I'm shocked, the past few days seem to have blurred into one, mainly because I've been doing pretty much the same thing every day, staring at the screen of my laptop trying to complete this ICT, my motivation has gone now so I think its time to write the blog, check twitter, check facebook,  update the tumblr which I've just set up (http://www.strangecharm94.tumblr.com/) and curl up with some DVD's and read because once again the plans for a day out have been scrapped due to miserable weather, people working and a general lack of organisation. Hopefully the weekend will be much better!

To add to the list of amazingly fun things I've done today, I did some Biology posters for revision which I'm pretty proud of because I spent ages drawing out diagrams and colouring them in. Oh and I've decided I probably ought to read Of Mice and Men again ready for English, at least I can enjoy that subject somewhat unlike ICT.

On a tangent, (and I do love tangents) I wanted to say how much I'm looking forwards to spring, bring on the warm, sunshine weather again instead of this constant cover of clouds! I've also decided I need to start looking for prom dress ideas soonish as well as buying some new clothes, as my wardrobe is looking empty! I may have to schedule in a shopping trip sometime...

Where are the days going to...

I'm not too sure where the holidays are going to, it seems like now the fun has disappeared and I'm left to face the mountains of work I've been trying to avoid. So I started on my ICT project again and honestly I cannot wait till 25th March when the deadline is because at least then I'll be safe in knowledge that I'll never have talk about "initial plans", "ongoing plans" or "test buddy feedback" ever again.

And I'm being organised with my revision for once and starting early ready for the GCSE's in May and June. Today I brought two more A4 files to hold posters, notes and test papers, some new felt tips because I was distraught to find mine were all dead and new highlighters. Yep, these next few months are going to be fun, and I'm especially dreading revising maths because I hate it so much, it takes all my effort just persuading myself to face cos, sin and tan...shudders. So this morning I did some physics on the universe and stars which wasn't too bad as I find that topic interesting, and later I'm going to do a quick biology poster on osmosis. I'll probably squeeze in chemistry tommorow sometime along with more ICT.

Nothing else really to report today, but my blogs have been pretty boring for the past few posts recently so I'll leave you with some piccies! See you tommorow!

Probably the best game of countdown ever and one of the best words ever. I wish Moss from the IT crowd would come help me with my ICT!

No one would have believed...

I wasn't really sure what to write about today, but I had a brilliant suggestion of writing about books, one my fave things in the world.
During exam season, I struggle to find time to read so this week has been a good opportunity to open the covers of some pieces of literature I had been meaning to sink my teeth into for a while. Firstly, I borrowed a book from the library called "The Other Countess", this was a book for Young Adults set in Tudor times and I was pleasantly surprised as recently I've found YA fiction standards to be slipping, the stories becoming too similar and lacking in a certain quality. However this book kept me hooked, the characters were likable and at least had some sense, the story seemed realistic and also intriguing at the same time, definatly you should read it for yourself if you get the opportunity.

Another book I keep meaning to talk about is a classic- "War Of The Worlds", one of the first tales of alien invasion ever written. I love how this book is challenging to read and whilst focuses its attention mainly on the sequence of events the martians bring with them, also hints at several points to do with humanity, society, and conquest. Additionally,  I would like to point out that the soundtrack "War Of The Worlds" is pretty amazing as well, I often listen to it when I need to think, plus I've seen it performed live and it was one of the most incredible things I've ever been to.

I will also mention "Animal Farm", poissibly one of my favourite books of all time. This tale of revolution that in first light seems to be simply about a bunch of animals looking for freedom from oppression by humans, actually contains deep context which makes you think about whether we can ever truly live our lives fairly and equally. I'd say this book is a must read!

Well, there's a quick update for you of my recent reads...I love books so much so I may have actually gone into a lot of detail there! :D

Yesterday does not define you....

Another blog title with lyrics from a song this time "Family Tree by Matthew West". I wanted to use this title as I've been thinking a lot about the current state of the world and what could be possible.

Yesterday I went to see Never Let Me Go at the cinema, basically its about these genetic clones whose whole purpose is to donate organs to "Original humans", of course theres an element of love twisted in but I don't want to say too much because you really should see it for yourself. It really made me think, what with science developing so rapidly that a future like that could really be possible. I'm all for scientific medical advancements, in fact I support them and want to have a career in science, but there's only so far I think we should allow ourselves to take things, using genetic cloning processes to create organs to save lives I think is a brilliant thing, but if people overstepped the mark and actually began to make full clones just to be organ donors then that to me would inhumane.

On another note in Libya, innocents are being slaughtered just for protesting and yet there seems to be a lack of knowledge about what is actually going on. I'm not too informed so I won't pretend to know everything that is going in that country, but it still shocks me the fact that MEDC countries aren't getting involved or even showing that much interest in the situation...is there an ulterior motive at work, a certain fuel perhaps?

I know world peace is a concept which is near impossible to achieve, but why can't we understand that whatever we are promised or seems simply amazing for one group of people will have consequences on others. Maybe we should all remember that lyric "yesterday does not define you.", because whatever you promised yesterday can always be changed.
